Collection show: A Dance For One’ 2011/12 @ Sydney Opera House

All of the black-magick-angel-vixens of the world congratulate and celebrate the tenth anniversary of Lover’s Black Rose and White Magick. Absent from the Australian runway for five years, Susien Chong and Nic Briand returned to RAFW with a presentation entitledA Dance For Oneat the Sydney Opera House.

According to the duo, they began the label with aspirations of creating their “own world with a mix and match of [their] favourite heroes, muses, films and songs.” Its been a solid decade and they are doing a superb job of enlisting members to their Black Rose Army.

Dancing alone is liberating and exhilarating and we posture that it is best done while donning Chantilly lace and listening to Grinderman. Lover’s silken fabrics are as delicate as a maiden’s handkerchief, but the softness is countered by racy peek-a-boo possibilities.

Collars are capricious: at times buttoned up and turned down, at times scalloped and erect, and at times the blouse is left open to billow and reveal a bandeau. A vibrant coral, red color is found on lips and hips alike and infused into their theme of black –white.
