Collection show: Josh Goot 2011/12

Fresh from London and back on his home turf, Josh Goot premiered his Spring/Summer collection in an abandoned Darlinghurst factory.
The fluorescent bulbs spared no one. With his first show after dark,
he embraced the absence of natural light and confirmed his affinity
for digital print.

Mr. Goot’s work appears to be gravitating toward a more exquisite, couture aesthetic. His presentation was astoundingly diverse –he has proven that time away in Europe has developed his artistic range.

The collection featured masculine, stiffly pressed buttoned collars, jackets and trousers as well as dresses and smocks. His use of color was no exception: it ranged from dull putty to jewel tones of emerald green, deep red.

Select ensembles were monochrome while others were completely juxtaposed. While stripes were orderly on one dress, they were spattered on the next.

Complex graphic design was featured on several pieces; he employs a brand of images that are unachievable in the natural world – you don’t know where it starts and where it ends.

Once the sun goes down, Australia’s golden boy is back, and it’s a whole new game.
